The root chakra or the Muladhara Chakra in Sanskrit is also termed “The root of all things.” This energy point is located at the base of your spine. To be a little bit more specific, it’s along the pelvic floor and the first three vertebrae.

The root chakra is the first of the seven primary chakras. This chakra is responsible for your sense of safety and security in the world you live in. Moreover, its governance includes stability, strength, and commitment.

It’s a center for your emotional and spiritual balance, as well as instinctual consciousness. The Muladhara chakra is responsible for preserving the self and feeling grounded.

We can break down the word Muladhara into two Sanskrit words, namely Mula and Adhara. Mula means “root,” and Adhara means “support” or “base.” This energy point is tied to survival and our ability to thrive.

In our changing world, we have come to include many concepts we deem essential for our survival. This extends the root chakra governing space taking health, wealth, and community into inclusion.

Now, through technological advances, we can expand our knowledge of health and how to survive. Our communities are also getting more vital and vital day by day. The root chakra also governs our daily feelings like trust, belonging, and the state of being present.

The root chakra holds specific importance in the energy system. The lack of “roots” can affect the integrity of the other chakras. These effects can directly affect an individual’s well-being as a whole, mind, body, and spirit.

Imbalance and Blockage

Like every other element in our bodies and external environment, imbalances impede our growth and development. In the case of chakras and energies, an imbalance can also result in notable changes.

Taking care of our bodies includes maintaining balance and preventing blockages from disturbing our energy flow. When we have balance, we feel secure, and at home, we feel satisfied.

A Root Chakra blockage or imbalance can manifest in two ways: underactive or overactive. This imbalance or blockage can manifest in the form of

Practicing Affirmations

There are a lot of ways to practice affirmations. It is also very compatible with other manifestation techniques as it is flexible and very effective.

Every one of us must be busy with something every day. The world is changing, and many things are added up to our daily lives. We are mostly occupied and fail to have time for ourselves.

However, it’s good to realize that there are few windows of opportunity throughout our days. These are moments when you can spare some time for yourself and recite your affirmations.

You can state your affirmations during the following times:

  • Early in the morning. The peace and quiet whenever we wake up early help in the relaxation of our minds. Starting your day right will surely do you good! You can recite your affirmations after you can wake up completely. Relax and breathe deeply. You can then do your session.
  • While taking a bath. Taking a bath is also an activity we mostly do all alone. Reciting your affirmations while taking a bath can be your routine or a part of your “me time” every day. You also have the opportunity to honor the water that cleanses you outwardly as well as inwardly. You can do both water manifestation and affirmation while taking your bath.
  • Before or after every meal. You can also squeeze some time during meal times. Taking time to express gratitude raises your vibrations and increases positive energy within you.
  • While waiting for your turn in a line or queue. Try to avoid resorting to gadgets whenever you are bored and waiting in line. Try reciting affirmations instead! It will help you relieve your stress and release tension. Not only that, but it will also keep you away from the harmful effects of radiation. It is a winning situation no matter where you look at it! Waiting has never been more fun!
  • While waiting for the printer to finish printing. When you’re in your respective offices, you can still make affirmations! You can do it while waiting for printouts or waiting to join a meeting. It can also help in calming you down before a nerve-wracking task. You got this!
  • In the washroom. Bathroom breaks can also be an opportunity! You do this while retouching your makeup or washing your hands. It does not need to take long to be able to make an effective affirmation. It is hugely related to your belief and passion.
  • While commuting. When you are on a bus or a taxi, you can recite your affirmations. It can be done inside your mind or spoken softly. But I recommend you do it inside your mind if you are in a taxi. The driver might mistake you as a weird person, haha!
  • Before going to bed. This one of the most effective times to recite affirmations. The night is silent, and you are in your calmest and most relaxed state. It is the time for rest, and it's time to get rid of all the worries and anxieties of the day. You can do your affirmations at this time and refresh your mind and soul. When you drift to sleep, your mind is still at work. This means you can manifest and affirm even when asleep!

A way to an effective affirmation is to imagine a red-colored object in your mind while reciting. Red is the root chakra’s color, and it will help you immensely.

Balancing Your Root Chakra


Doing yoga every day is also a huge help in healing and keeping the root chakra balanced. Here are yoga poses that help in balancing your root chakra.

  • Warrior II (Virabhadrasana II) – This pose will help you ground the energy in your body so that you will feel stable and ready to face the challenges.
  • Standing Forward Fold (Uttanasana) – This pose helps bring a sense of peace and calm to your noisy thoughts and cluttered mind.
  • Garland Pose (Malasana) – This pose brings you closer to the Earth. A more profound sense of connection that helps bring quiet to our minds. This pose strengthens the lower back, ankles, and calves.
  • Head to Knee Forward Bend (Janu Sirsasana) – This pose also brings you a sense of grounding. It also develops flexibility of your back, hamstrings, and hips.
  • Easy pose (Sukhasana) – This pose enables you to feel the connection between your physical body and the ground.

Do these poses with good intentions and allow your whole body to work in balancing your Root chakra.

Food and diet

What we eat is also essential in maintaining a healthy and balanced life. You can try incorporating red foods and spices into your diet.

  • Beets
  • Apples
  • Red meat
  • Eggs
  • Vegetables such as carrots and potatoes
  • Red spices such as cayenne pepper and hot sauce


When we visualize, we paint a picture of our goals in our minds. These positive thoughts attract positive things. Positivity raises our vibrational frequency, which invites good things into our lives.

You can sit on a chair with both your feet on the floor. You can then visualize roots growing from your feet into the ground. This way, you remind yourself of your grounding.
