Ladders have lots of symbolism outside of your dreams. You've probably come across several phrases that involve “climbing a ladder,” be it in your professional life where you make progress in your career, climb onto the ladder in the housing market, or whether your reputation grows or suffers. But what does ladder mean?
Symbolically, a ladder is symbolic of the connection between heaven and earth. It represents progress, ascension, and spiritual passage that go through levels of initiation. It can also connote ambition, gradual acquisition of knowledge, and overcoming problems.
As you can see, the ladder consists of horizontal rungs and two vertical uprights. The horizontal rungs represent progressively higher levels of consciousness, while the two vertical uprights represent the symbol of duality.
And because the ladder has no moving parts, it can symbolize ascension through your effort and desire.
The ladder will also remind you that reaching the highest realms is not a swift journey. Each rung represents a gradual ascent, such as wisdom, knowledge, and enlightenment that need to be earned one step at a time.

However, it would help to keep in mind that every journey has its rests and pauses. Therefore, whenever you need some break during your spiritual ascent, the ladder's rungs can provide you with support and strength until you're ready for the next step.
Moreover, the ladder symbol will remind you that your upward ascent from the bottom rung to the uppermost rung could be a journey through the world of duality. Hence, before you can step up to the next higher rung, you must experience and master the lessons of duality that exist at the current level of elevation.
As you ascend on the upper rungs of the ladder, you will slowly elevate, higher and higher above the lower plane of the ordinary. Upon reaching the higher rungs of the ladder, you begin to breathe in the air of higher consciousness, where the mysteries of eternity will begin to unfold their secrets.
Upon reaching the topmost rung of the ladder, you'll enter the realm of the highest consciousness. You have now left the world's confusions, frustrations, and restrains and can now finally fully enjoy the purified realm of angels and higher spirits.
Because of your desire and effort, you have transcended duality and entered the infinite domain of unity.
Biblical meaning of ladder in a dream
Did you dream about ladders last night? Dreams about ladders can symbolize social status, achievements, and self-reflection. In a greater sense, a ladder dream is more like an elevator; however, it's more related to your doings to achieve your goals.
The ladder can also suggest a state of mind, such as prayer or meditation. When you dream of staying on top of the ladder could suggest a higher spiritual path and awareness.
Every rung of the ladder holds a symbolic stage in your life.
When you dream of a ladder, try to remember such details as how you feel when you climb up the ladder, the type of material, and the location of the ladder. These details can help you understand your dream better.
When you dream about climbing up a ladder, it suggests that you have reached a new milestone. It symbolizes prosperity, hard work, and efforts. You may think of it as the social ladder.
When you dream about climbing down a ladder, you're stepping down from a position that you've had.
Seeing yourself holding a ladder for a friend suggests that you are helpful to the people around you. The opposite is true when you dream of someone holding the ladder for you.
It means that you receive help from other people. Meanwhile, when you fall from a ladder and hit the floor, you're facing some difficulties.
It could be a simpler misstep, especially if it's your fault. Or it could be that someone is sabotaging you or doing things that could hurt you.
When you dream about standing right at the upper rung of the ladder, it represents shaky standing. It could be that you're at the top of the world, but you look for support since you might fall and you'll be back to basic again.
Meanwhile, seeing a broken ladder in your dream denotes consistent failures in your undertakings. You may feel stuck in your current status and cannot climb out of position.
A rope ladder in your dream could mean a shaky and non-stable climb that you're going through. This dream reminds you that you need to be cautious with every step you take.
It could be your plan or decision-making because one wrong move can affect your life. Dreaming of a high ladder represents difficulties in succeeding. However, you can still get it if you have the physical power and mental mind to accomplish the tank.
If you are afraid of heights while being on a tall ladder, you need to overcome this fear to succeed. On the other hand, a short ladder represents your short-term and smaller goals, such as quitting cigarette smoking or developing a morning routine.
For instance, seeing a slippery ladder or a ladder with small steps suggests that the decision you're going to make is risky, especially if it's a big project. Perhaps you should consider stepping back and rethinking your process, like considering taking another ladder before making a step.
Moreover, you also have to rethink your emotions and get rid of the possibility that you will fall. It reflects your risk-taking nature in waking life.
A dream of going under the ladder denotes terrible luck since it's a common belief of a bad omen. Your mind will replicate this association and also highlight how you look at things from a different perspective.
Jacob's ladder spiritual meaning
The story of Jacob's ladder refers to the prophetic dream wherein Jacob sees a ladder that stretches from heaven to earth. This dream represents the connection between God and man.
It also declared Jacob the father of God's chosen people for Israelites.
You can read Jacob's dream of a divine ladder in Genesis 28:10-21, where Jacob left Beersheba and went to Haran. He came to a specific place and stayed there that night since the sun had set.
He takes one of the stones, puts it under his head, and lays down to sleep. He then dreamed and beheld that there was a ladder set up on the earth, and at the top of it reached heaven.
Behold are the angels of God that were ascending and descending on it.
The Lord stood above it and said, “I am the Lord, the God of Abraham, your father and the God of Isaac. Your offspring will be like the dust of the earth, and you should spread abroad to the west, east, north, and the south, and in you and your offspring will all the families of the earth be blessed. Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go and bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”
Then Jacob awoke from his dream and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.” And he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place!” It is none other than the house of God, and it is the gate of heaven.”
Metaphysically, it means that we are in heaven and on earth simultaneously. Your spirit possesses both heavenly and earthly levels.
The higher the levels of your heavenly beings, the lower your levels are in the earthy levels. Make a picture of a ladder with two sides and the rungs across.
So you have the substance of the ladder and the entire meaning of the ladder, which is upright. In numbers, it's the number one, representing the state of being.
The ladder represents your actual being and oneness with God. You have to crossbars or rugs; however, historically, the ladders come with leather thongs that they would tie.
They don't have nails and hammers. They would tie a certain kind of knot, and once the leather dries, the rugs become firm.
So, there's a possibility that this is the kind of ladder Jacob dreamed about.
Regardless, this earthly and heavenly ladder has angels of God that ascend and descend on it. Let's start with the ascending angels, and they would start in a direction that touches every rung while reaching heaven.
The descending one touches every rung, reaching the earth. The ladder's rungs represent the steps in modern times, leading from self to God and from God to self.
They also mean beliefs and implications. Yet the angels touch each and everyone, which is essential.
Next, the angels represent communication between God and self through feelings, desires, aspirations, and prayers. The ascending angels are the communication modes going from self to God, while the descending angels are modes of communication from God to self.
They come in healing, guidance, inspiration, and blessings.
In Jacob's dream of the ladder, the movement is simultaneous. You can only give to God that He had already given you, and God can only give to you what He already received from you.
It means that your need and fulfillment are equal to the mind of God. It's only the mind of man where he can view these as two sides of the coin; however, in the mind of God, the movement of angels are simultaneous.
