Have you ever wondered what you are here for? What is your purpose in life? What you are meant to do in this world?
You may have also wondered how to achieve success and happiness. Whether it’s for your personal life, career, relationships, spiritual, or others, you search for something that could satisfy it. But you have no clue what it is.
It can be difficult to answer these questions. Sometimes, it can even be frustrating to think about.
In your journey through this world, you may feel lost or unsure which path to take. Many people search for guidance that will help them make sense of this life easier.
This is where knowing your North Node comes in. Discovering your North Node, a.k.a. your soul’s purpose in this life, will help you reach the fulfillment you’ve always desired.
North Node and South Node
Since ancient times, people look for guidance to help them deal with life. Whether they want financial success, harmonious relationships, power, fame, or good health, they search for anything that could help them achieve that. For some, turning to astrology gives them the enlightenment and counsel they need.
The North Node and South Node are two different points in your natal chart. They always oppose one another and are called the Nodal Axis. They are used in astrology as a means to know your destiny and past life.
If you’re a bit familiar with astrology, you may already know about astrological signs. You may have also already heard about heavenly bodies and how they affect your life: from your personality to your future.
Lunar Nodes, as they are called, aren’t heavenly bodies. They aren’t even visible to the naked eye. These are mathematical points in which the moon crosses the ecliptic; in other words, the sun’s orbit around the earth.
Of course, the sun doesn’t revolve around the earth, and it’s the other way around. But, when observed from the earth, the sun follows a path in the sky. The points in which these two paths converge are the North and South Node, respectively.
The Lunar Nodes changes around 18 months. The cycle moves in retrograde motion and follows the astrological cycle of the signs and houses.
So, for example, if the North Node this time is in Cancer, the South Node is in Capricorn. This will be the placement of the Lunar Nodes until about two years. By that time, it will be moving to North Node Gemini and South Node Sagittarius.

Your North Node placement tells you who you were and what you’re about to become. It’s the challenges you need to overcome and the lessons you need to learn in order to grow spiritually. It varies from one person to another, depending on their natal chart.
It’s the destiny you have to follow through. It serves as your guide to help you navigate through this life more easily. It is the qualities and traits you need to learn to achieve happiness and fulfillment. You will be undergoing life-changing events that will force you to face them.
Every journey starts from somewhere. If you’re heading to your North Node, you will begin from your South Node. The South Node is the seat of those qualities and habits that you already know. This is your comfort zone.
Your habitual place, no matter how you feel safe inside it, stops you from becoming the person you're ought to become. Your south node carries those negative tendencies and traits you need to cast off. By learning about your north node, you will be guided in your journey to spiritual fulfillment.
South Node: Your Karmic Past
To understand your North Node better, we must first examine what your South Node indicates. Your South Node represents the traits, talents, and habits you have mastered in your previous lifetimes. It can also mean those things that come naturally to you. It may also be those that you have learned in your early life.
But, as good as those qualities may be, you have overdeveloped them. You may have honed those traits and talents to perfection during your previous lifetimes, and you won’t let go of them now.
For example, if you are a North Node Aries and South Node Libra, you may be someone who puts other people’s needs before themselves. As a consequence, you may have become overly reliant on people or desperately want their approval at your own expense.
Continuing with our example, you may be already good at keeping peace in your relationships. You tend to let other people take the lead rather than being the one in front. This is your comfort zone.
However, staying in this way will not bring you fulfillment in this lifetime. You won’t grow as a person if you keep waiting for other people to do things for you. You will be faced with life situations in which you will be forced to take charge instead of following others like you used to do.
North Node: Your Soul Destiny
Embracing your North Node is like leaving the comforts of your home and venturing into unfamiliar territory. Everyone born in this world will have to do that. Most people will usually face this point in their life sometime during their 30s. This is the time when you have to embrace your destiny.
Back to our previous example of Aries North Node and Libra South Node, these natives will have to practice individuation rather than constantly working in groups. In this lifetime, they are here to learn what it means to be a leader. They will have to practice independence, assertiveness, and the courage to take the reins.
No matter what your north node placement is, you are going to encounter obstacles you are meant to overcome. Everyone is being called to step out of their comfort zone and take up the challenge the North Node brings them. Once you decided to go for it, you will feel spiritually fulfilled.
Using the Wisdom of Your North Node and South Node Together
The first step to spiritual growth is by appreciating your south node. Learning about your north node doesn’t mean you have to discard your south node. In fact, knowing its strengths and putting it to better use is what you need to achieve fulfillment. Your innate abilities and the traits you need to master will help you grow as a spiritual being.
North Node in Houses and Signs
North Node placements are determined according to the astrological sign and house it was in when you were born.
The North Node in the astrological sign is the embodiment of your attitudes, energy, and talent.
The North Node in the astrological house is the embodiment of the areas in life that you will be focusing that energy into.
Whereas astrological signs are something that can be seen, houses are more like the representations of the skies as you would observe it from here. Astrological houses are divided into twelve following the zodiacs, with each having a natural ruler. For example, Aries rules the First House. Learning what each house means can help you determine which area in your life your growth will be focused on.
To know your North and South Node placement, refer to your natal chart.
Difference Between True Node and Mean Node
If you will delve deeper into the subject of Lunar Nodes, you may learn about True Node and Mean Node. They almost mean the same thing, with a little difference.
The True Node is the exact location of the North Node at any time. The Mean Node, on the other hand, is the average placement of the North Node.
Since there’s no strict rule on which one is better, you can use either of those to know your true calling in life.
Your Destiny Calls…
Going on a journey towards your spiritual growth and fulfillment won’t be easy. Nothing worth it will ever be. However, by deciding to take on the challenge that life has to offer, you will reap greater rewards in this lifetime.
Equip yourself with the wisdom and guidance brought forth by your Lunar Nodes. They aren’t there to limit you or stop you from getting the life you want. Use it instead as your guide, as your stepping stone, to achieve your purpose and become happier.
Your destiny may involve helping other people. Or it may be you are called forth to become a leader. You may be the one this world is waiting to initiate change.
Whatever it may be, don’t be afraid to take a risk. Set yourself free from those things that don’t serve you. Embrace your soul destiny and head out with a heart full of courage.
No matter how hard the journey will be, you have to always believe in yourself and keep on fighting.
