St. Raphael the Archangel name, means the “God heals” or the “God who heals.” He is one of the seven Archangels mentioned in the book of Tobit.
“I am Raphael, one of the seven angels who stand in the glorious presence of the Lord, ready to serve him.” (Tobit 12:15)
Only Raphael, Gabriel, and Michael were the only Archangels mentioned by their name in the bible.
St. Raphael disguised himself as a human in the Book of Tobit, bearing the name “Azarias (Yahweh helps) the son of the great Ananias.” Raphael traveled alongside Tobiah, Tobit's son, where he revealed to him his mission after they returned from their journey.
He declared that he was sent by the Lord to help Tobit heal his blindness and to keep his wife Sara (his to-be future wife) from the demon Asmodeus. The demon Asmodeus was responsible for the death of the seven-man Sara married on the night of the wedding before the marriage was consummated.
With Raphael's intervention and guidance, Tobit was able to safely enter the marriage with Sara. The restoration of Tobit's eyesight, allowing him to see the light of heaven and driving the evil spirit away from Sara, was all honored in the name of St. Raphael the Archangel.
St. Raphael was also mentioned in the First Book of Enoch, stating that Raphael is the “Angel of the Spirits of Men.” It is his purpose to “heal the earth which the angels (fallen angels) have defiled,” where his biblical story claims that his identity as a “healer” came about.
Because of St. Raphael's mission as a healer and a traveler, he is often invoked for journeys, matchmaking, or any physical health relations.

St. Raphael, Angel of chaste courtship, bless our friendship and our love, that sin may have no part in it. May our mutual love bind us so closely that our future home may ever be most like the home of the Holy Family of Nazareth.
