The myth behind the Zodiac sign, Sagittarius, is the most debatable of all the myths in Astrology. A lot of people may believe that it is based on the centaur, Chiron, and some may believe that it is based on the satyr, Krotos. Let’s talk about them a little bit.

Chiron was half man and half horse, and he was the most famous centaur for he was the King of all centaurs. Apollo and Artemis were taught by Chiron and learned a lot about wisdom and Spirituality from him.

As the myth goes, Chiron was destined to a gruesome death. Hercules went home after killing the wild boar; unfortunately, he had a violent encounter with drunken centaurs.

So, to protect himself, he drove these centaurs away pretty close to where Chiron lived. Accidentally, one of the poisonous arrows he used to shoot these centaurs went completely astray and stabbed Chiron very severely.

Chiron was semi-divine and an immortal, so he cannot die and had to live with that pain and agony for the rest of his life. Zeus felt sorry for him, so he permitted Chiron to give his divine status and pass it onto Prometheus.

And so, Chiron was left to die, and he was finally relieved with the pain he was living with. Zeus decided to make Chiron a constellation to honor and was known to be the wounded healer.

The other myth refers to Krotos, the satyr that lived with all the muses, and he was a half-human and half goat. He was a musician and a hunter, and he invented the bow according to Greek mythology. He was much like Chiron that was meant to die in a gruesome way.

It is pretty easy to why the myths behind the centaur and the satyr got confused because Chiron and Krotos were pretty much the same. They were both wild and lustful and had no respect for authority. Both were gifted in the arts and knowledge.
