Now the question is, who is St. Jude Thaddeus? And why do people pray to him?
St. Jude Thaddeus was born to a Jewish family in Paneas, a town in Galilee. The same region where Jesus grew up.
His name Jude means “giver of joy,” while Thaddeus means “generous and kind.” St. Jude has several brothers, including St. James the Apostle.
He is described as “brethren” (blood-related) or brother by Jesus Christ in Matthew (13:55), “Isn't this the carpenter's Son? Isn't his mother's name Mary, and aren't his brothers James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas?”
His Father, Cleopas, was the brother of St. Joseph, Jesus' father. So, they were not biologically brothers but were possibly cousins.
St. Jude is well known and one of the revered saints in the Catholic Church. He's one of the Twelve Apostles according to the New Testament.
One of St. Jude's missions before was to encourage people to persevere in difficult circumstances, keep their faith, and stay in the love of God. That's why as a Patron Saint of Hopeless Causes, many people venerate and pray his novenas and recite his litany.
