Being a new mom is something miraculous that could happen in your life. Miracle in a way that you and your baby survive all the challenging phases of pregnancy, labor, and giving birth and now facing the days ahead together.

You get to learn your weakness and fears you don’t know that is existing in you. In contrast, you get to know yourself better and see your true power is unleashed.

You don’t know where you get the strengths you have right now.

It takes a lot of strength to be a mother from carrying the baby for 9months straight, the pains of labors and giving birth and the responsibility of taking care of your little one.

All the emotional, mental and physical toll you go through is rewarding after seeing the face of an angel that has miraculously lived inside your womb for months.

Although things are challenging and certain situations is going to push you to the limit, being a new mom is worth to be celebrated!

The struggles after giving birth is something new moms needs to face, including baby blues.

What causes baby blues?

When you are feeling moody or sad, you might be feeling baby blues. It’s normal to feel an emotional rollercoaster at this time.

Hormonal changes happen after delivery, where the amount of estrogen and progesterone drops. This sudden decrease in hormones causes mood swings and may possibly lead to baby blues.

Some women experience a sharp drop of hormones in the thyroid gland, which can lead to feeling tired or/ and depressed. Also, disruption of routine and not getting enough food and sleep can add to these feelings.

Fear, worry, and anxiety are common, too, especially if it’s your first time delivering a child. These emotions are present because of the fear of the unknown and uncertainty.

Generally, many new parents experience this phase. According to recent studies, about 80% of women experience baby blues after giving birth.

Going through the emotions and feelings mentioned above doesn’t mean you did something wrong. Baby blues is pretty normal for mothers who just gave birth, and it only lasts around one or two weeks.

If it exceeds that, you will need to follow up with your health care provider. They might check you for a more serious condition called postpartum depression.

What can you do to prevent this and how can you take care of yourself?

The best way to decrease the symptoms of baby blues is to take care of the mom. There are several ways you can do can support yourself emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually!

First and most important is letting yourself heal after giving birth. Take time for yourself to adjust to new responsibilities and to settle to sleeping and feeding routines.

Get as much sleep as you can and maintain a healthy balanced diet. Eating correctly can prevent generating mood swings.

As simple as taking Omega-3 or avoiding eating simple carbohydrates. Be mindful of your food intake and never drink alcohol, drugs or taking other forms of addiction.

Exercise if you can take a walk to enjoy fresh air or get some sunshine. These activities can help calm your body and mind.

Never forget to ask for help! You and your partner may feel overwhelmed with all the new things going around.

So, it is best to have someone such as a helper, a family member and friends. You can ask them to watch the baby while you rest or take a shower or even as simple as cleaning and going for food shopping.

You can also try to connect to a support group for new parents so there’s comfort where you can share your feeling and listen to experiences that you can relate to. It is important to be reminded that you are not alone in your struggles.

Last, enrich your spiritual life by meditating in prayers or doing yoga. Through spiritual practices, you get to connect deeply to yourself, your friends, your environment, and to the supreme power of God.

Disconnection from self, from everything around you, and from reality doesn’t help you to cope with your emotions and struggles. There is no greater comfort, strength, and peace that the Lord can give you as you go through this journey.

Spirituality is an important aspect in life that can help you feel inner strength, a higher sense of purpose, and peace and lead a meaningful life. All of this will definitely help you cope up and recover faster after giving birth!

Prayer for Mom and Baby

A new life from the womb is something to celebrate. You’ll feel this jolt of excitement; your family rejoices, and you and your partner may cry and laugh.

You love your baby so much. But in one moment, you feel sad and down.

It is normal to feel emotional and experience mood swings. After giving birth, you need to take good care of yourself and rebuild your strength.

You and your baby will need to cope up from changes and face the journey together. It is challenging and sometimes it terrifies you thinking about the crazy world your child will face.

As a new parent, you’ll feel excited to take care and love this child. Sometimes it overwhelms you about the preparation for this new life and will also motivate you to pray.

Instead of focusing on worrying, shift your attention into thanking and praising God for his power and provision.

Know that God planned your baby’s life even before your dear child were conceived. God has plans for everyone; Psalm 139:13-16 says,

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”

Your prayers are part of the Lord’s miracles. As a parent, pray for your child for God already knows them and has plans for them even before they were conceived.

Lord God, I am sending my gratitude to you for blessing me this baby

Thank you for entrusting me this new life

I bring forth to you my little one and I pray that you would be with me every moment

I ask that you bless my baby with protection and guidance that he or she would grow without any problems or complications

Please help me to lead this child’s life knowing you and your teachings

Lord, I surrender to you my concerns, anxiety and fears

Grand me with your guiding light that I may grow with a motherly heart that is pure, kind and loving

Thank you, Lord, for choosing this little one to be my child and for putting your trust to me to be its mother

I know this is your plan, your will and this is no accident

I praise and worship your name! Amen
