A cancer patient may experience a lot of emotional rollercoasters, especially when undergoing surgery. There can be a lot of fears, uncertainty, doubts, loneliness, anger, hopelessness, and frustration. These are human emotions, and it's normal for people to feel this way. But! As the Patron Saint of Hopeless Causes, St. Jude Thaddeus is loved worldwide for all the miracles he brought to people's lives. He is a cousin of Jesus Christ mentioned in Matthew (13:55), and is one of the Twelve Apostles.

Prayer to St. Peregrine for One Suffering from Cancer
St. Peregrine's story was remarkable since his story didn't start from being holy. Instead, he was a Rebel Who Became a Saint.
Peregrine Laziosi (1265-1345) was born in Forli, Italy. He grew up in a wealthy family as the only son. In his teens, Peregrine was active in politics and soon became a ringleader of the anti-papal party.
During one uprising, Pope Martin IV sent Philip Benizi, of the Order of Servites (Servants of Mary), as his ambassador to bridge the gap between the angry rebels. Unfortunately, Peregrine was one of the rebels at that time and was the one who beat up St. Philip Benizi.
Moments later, Peregrine was stricken by remorse after seeing the bleeding priest. He asked for forgiveness, to which in return was granted a smile by Philip.
Peregrine followed Philip's suggestion and often prayed in Our Lady's chapel in the Cathedral. While praying, he saw a vision of the Blessed Virgin Mary telling him to go to Siena.
Astonished by what he witnessed, Peregrine followed Mary's instruction and joined the Servites in Siena. He was then ordained as a priest and found a Servite monastery.
After a few years, he had cancer of the foot, which needed to be amputated. Peregrine spent a long night praying for his surgery the night before his surgery.
After falling asleep, he dreamed that Jesus touched his leg to heal it.
The following morning, his foot which was carefully bandaged, was completely cured. This miracle influenced his reputation as the Patron Saint of Cancer Patients.
On May 1st, 1345, Peregrine died and was blessed by the Church as one of the Saints. Many revered the Miracle Worker up until this day.
If you are the one afflicted by cancer, use this Prayer to St. Peregrine. May the hope, light, and healing be with you!
St. Peregrine, whom Holy Mother Church has declared Patron of those suffering from Cancer, I confidently turn to you for help in my present sickness. I beg your kind intercession. Ask God to relieve me of this sickness, if it be his Holy Will. Plead with the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of Sorrows, whom you loved so tenderly and in union with whom you have suffered the pains of Cancer, that she may help me with her powerful prayers and loving consolation.
But if it should be God’s Holy Will that I bear this sickness, obtain for me courage and strength to accept these trials from the loving hand of God with patience and resignation, because he knows what is best for the salvation of my soul. St. Peregrine, be my friend and patron. Help me to imitate you in accepting suffering, and to unite myself with Jesus Crucified and the Mother of Sorrows, as you did. I offer my pains to God with all the love of my heart, for his glory and the salvation of souls, especially my own. Amen.

For so many years you bore in your own flesh this cancerous disease that destroys the very fiber of our being, and who had recourse to the source of all grace when the power of man could do no more. You were favored with the vision of Jesus coming down from His Cross to heal your affliction. Ask of God and Our Lady, the cure of the sick whom we entrust to you.
